"... that the great deeds of men may not be forgotten ...
and especially, the causes of the war between them."
by Herodotus
"Many heroes lived before Agamemnon; but all are unknown and
unwept, extinguished in everlasting night, because they have no
spirited chronicler."
by Horace [Quintus Horatius Flaccus]
"And some there be, which have no memorial; who are perished,
as though they had never been; and are become as though they had
never been born; and their children after them. ... Their bodies
are buried in peace; but their name liveth for evermore."
Ecclesiasticus 44:9-14
"To save your world you asked this man to die: Would this
man, could he see you now, ask why?" by W.H. Auden

the Literary Expression of Battlefield
Touchstones™
COMBAT was an online literary magazine published
quarterly from 2002 through 2008. This periodical was exclusively
devoted to the motives and insights of combat, seeking to
perpetuate the traditions of its forebears. This venue was an
open forum for creative expression and intelligent analysis on
the ramifications of violence and the consequences of conflict
resolution. COMBAT magazine was dedicated to the
memory of unknown peacemakers and unacknowledged peacekeepers,
who have honorably and lovingly defended their homelands ...
knowing that some must always go in harm's way, while
others await them. Due to an absence of sponsorship and a loss of
staff, this protracted project is no longer sustainable.
COMBAT magazine remains archived in its back
issues.
